Kids are naturally enthusiastic about geology. Ask parents how many rocks they have removed from their kids’ pockets! Our school trips channel this innate curiosity into specific learning experiences. Our classroom teaching style encourages participation: students have fun, while working with specimens they can keep, ensuring their on-going interest.
Mineralogy Trip Students learn mining history of the Boundary, and geology of Rock Candy Mountain. Everyone will collect and identify quartz, fluorite, barite & feldspar. Gravel road is accessible by bus or carpool. 1/2 kilometer hike brings students to mine. Trip features mineralogy & collecting, with professional guide and tools supplied. Price: $10 per person. Teachers and up to 5 drivers/chaperones are free, other accompanying adults pay fee. 50% deposit or school purchase order required to hold date. One class (up to 30 students) per trip. Adult to student ratio of a least 1:7 required. A written confirmation will be sent when we receive your booking.
Mineralogy Class, at your school - 3rd through 6th
Students learn the physical properties of minerals, then work in groups to identify specimens. A highly motivational class, as kids keep all the minerals they can identify at the end of the lesson! Minerals are the building blocks of the earth, and our society depends upon them for fuel, housing, transportation, and technology. Learn how geologists find minerals, see & keep lots of beautiful specimens! One hour per class. The day begins with a free 20 minute assembly for all classes working with us.
